WWF and the Carrefour Foundation are committed to supporting dairy producers in the conversion to organic farming

Carrefour and its Foundation, WWF France, the Laiterie de Saint-Denis-de-l'Hôtel group (LSDH) and the farmers of the Centre basin (APLBC) have signed the first partnership to support dairy farmers in their conversion to organic farming.

At the Open Agrifood forum, held on November 21 and 22 in Orléans, Carrefour and its Foundation, WWF France, LSDH and APLBC Bio announce the launch of a major project to support milk producers in their conversion to organic milk production.

The announced partnership will provide financial support over a two-year period to approximately 66 milk producers of the APLBC Bio producer organisation. LSDH and the Fondation Carrefour will support producers of the APLBC Bio cooperative up to 30€ and 20€ per 1,000 litres respectively for two years, with a total of 10 million litres of milk. WWF will support the project through its expertise and will play a key role in involving consumers in the promotion and implementation of organic farming.

In addition, and at the end of the two years, the partnership will guarantee producers a guarantee regarding the sale of the volumes produced thanks to the signature of a three-year contract with Carrefour.

The first organic milk cartons from this partnership will be available in Carrefour stores from 2020. Consumers will be able to easily identify them thanks to specific labelling illustrating WWF France's support.

TESTIMONY
This is the first time that such a large-scale partnership - bringing together an NGO, a producer organisation, an SME and a distributor - has been set up in France to support farmers who wish to convert to organic farming. It is important that production methods evolve to meet the requirements of respect for the environment and the maintenance of biodiversity so that French agriculture, the first in Europe, produces in a healthy way for our ecosystem and for the consumer.
