The event took place on 4 and 5 September in 43 Spanish provinces, where the two organisations will collect classroom material for families with school-age children who are experiencing financial difficulties.
171 Carrefour hypermarkets throughout Spain have participated with the aim of reducing the impact of purchasing classroom material at the beginning of the school year for families with few economic resources.
Carrefour’s commitment to this initiative was a direct donation of classroom material to the value 121,000 euros, with which it covers the needs of 6,000 children in a situation of social emergency throughout Spain.
Added to this contribution will be the amount donated by citizens during the two days, with which it is hoped to exceed the number of beneficiaries reached in previous editions so that the classroom material can be distributed amongst more than 25,000 children at risk of exclusion.
Once the collection is completed, the Spanish Red Cross has distributed the classroom material in different batches to minors and young people in a vulnerable situation in each of the provinces.
In the last edition of “Solidary Back to School”, in which 171 centres around Spain participated, the Carrefour Solidarity Foundation supplied the Spanish Red Cross with classroom material in the amount of 492,015 euros.
