A new Refettorio in Paris opens its doors

Thursday, March 15, Refettorio Paris, a solidarity restaurant located under the Madeleine Church, has opened its doors. Every night, it will serve 100 healthy free meals, to most deprived people.

The project started in 2015 at the Universal Exposition of Milan. The triple Starred Chief Massimo Bottura started the first Refettorio, and then spread the concept with the help of the association Food For Soul to Rio, London and several Italian towns. In Paris, famous Chiefs will come to cook fresh products destined to waste, supporting a zero food waste initiative. A dozen of volunteers will take care of table service of nearly 130 kilos of delicious transformed food.

The Refetorrio Paris is not only a place to meet and share. This solidarity restaurant has also been designed to offer a warm and esthetic environment. French artists such as JR and Prune Nourry will display art pieces all over the place, conferring it a unique atmosphere.

The Carrefour Foundation has supported the launch of the Refettorio at la Madeleine up to €100 000 in 2018. And it also got involved with David Hertz when he decided to create the Refettorio Gastromotiva in Rio, during the 2016 Olympic Games, and has been supporting its development ever since.
