The match was held in the Roger Salengro stadium and was attended by the president of Brazil’s Associação Nacional de Esportes (national sports association - ANE), Marcelo Camargo. The result: a 5-3 victory for Rennais. The logotypes of the principal sponsors of the event, including NET Educação, Comgás, Petrobras, Vale Fertilizantes and Carrefour, were printed on the official game shirts.
Desailly and Benoit Costil, goalkeeper with French first-division team Stade Rennais, kicked the match off. Other members of Team Desailly were Matheus Vivian (a Brazilian player who won this year’s French Cup with EA Guingamp), Brittany footballing notables Christophe Le Roux of Lorient (division 1), Hervé Laurent of Guingamp (division 2), Landry Chauvin of Nantes (division 1), and other well-known footballing figures from past and present.
“For the fans it was an opportunity relive some magical moments from the past and see some of their old favourites in action again. All the proceeds from the match went to the Integrating Art and Life project, which gives help to 2500 children in the Baixada Santista metropolitan area of São Paulo State. Our thanks go to all the players, organizers and sponsors who made this event possible,” declared Camargo.
The ANE president also visited other football clubs and schools in an endeavour to forge closer relations between Brazil and France in terms of policy on inclusion and human development via sport and education.
The success of the event attracted the interest of a French sponsor which now wishes to add its backing to the project. Negotiation of the new sponsorship deal will be handled by SR Event.
The match was conceived and promoted by SR EVENT, whose French owner Stephane Richard is a major supporter of social initiatives in Brazil and Europe, in conjunction with Crédito Mútuo, Del Arte, ACE 56, ANE and T.A RENNES.
