Carrefour is since 1994 a daily partner of Food banks.
The Carrefour Foundation supports the Food banks regarding the logistics in order to enable them to transport products, especially fresh ones, and to store them through cold storage rooms.
In 2016, the Foundation made a donation of 167 560 euros to finance 6 vehicles (Eure-et-Loir, Savoie, the Var, Haute-Savoie, Béarn and Soul, Isère) and 1 cold storage room (Champagne South and the Meuse). Since 1994, Carrefour has financed the acquisition of more than 215 equipments for Food banks in the world, among which 165 refrigerated vehicles, 35 cold storage rooms, refrigerated boxes etc.
The dotation will also finance the organization and the animation of more than 300 training courses on hygiene and food security for volunteers and managers to ensure the high-quality of the distributed products.
Carrefour stores participate daily in the sorting and in the donation of the unsold articles to charities. These donations represented in 2015 the equivalent of about 100 million meals in France. Besides, Carrefour is the 1st private donor for Food Banks in France.
In May 2017, the inauguration of three vehicles took place in Martinique , Guadeloupe and one will occur very soon in the Island of Réunion.
