Funding of the Christmas Carol project

The Carrefour Spain Solidarity Foundation and the CNSE Foundation* have presented the first version in Spanish sign language of “A Christmas Carol”.

It comprises a book and a DVD featuring the Spanish sign language version (LSE) of this famous work by the British author.

The translation into LSE was carried out by professionals from the CNSE Foundation for elimination of communication barriers. To celebrate the occasion, two of these professionals performed part of the story before proceeding with the screening of a few fragments of this well-known work.

Thanks to this initiative, deaf Spanish children will be able to discover for the first time, in their own language, the story of Ebenezer Scrooge, a miserly and cruel man who, having been imbued with the spirit of Christmas, is transformed into a kind and generous person.

Since 2003, both organisations have been engaged in a joint venture aimed at promoting reading among deaf children, which won the CNSE Foundation the 2011 National Prize for the Promotion of Reading, awarded by the Spanish Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports.

With the presentation of this project, the CNSE Foundation and the Carrefour Solidarity Foundation intend to bring this classic of world literature to deaf children, thereby helping to normalise their situation.
